Makara

‘Makara’ takes its name from an indigenous story which tells of the coming together of the seven emu sisters to form the star constellation of Orion in the night sky. The adoption of Makara was considered appropriate by the seven croquet clubs who combined to stage this event every year at their various venues.

For many years the Makara operated under the principal stewardship of Ros Johnstone and Kathleen Love (Sutherland & Hurstville members). Now Lynda Toms and Lorraine Hatfield (members at both Sutherland and Port Hacking) play a significant role at the helm.
